Vietnam’s steel imports fell by 5.4% in the first half of the year

In the first six months of this year, Vietnam imported a total of 6.8 million tons of steel products, with a cumulative import value of more than 4 billion US dollars, which was a decrease of 5.4% and 16.3% compared with the same period last year.

According to the Vietnam Iron and Steel Association, the main countries exporting steel to Vietnam from January to June include China, Japan and South Korea.

According to the association statistics, in June alone, Vietnam imported nearly 1.3 million tons of steel products, valued at 670 million US dollars, an increase of 20.4% and a decrease of 6.9% year-on-year.

According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics of Vietnam, Vietnam’s steel imports in 2019 were US$9.5 billion, and imports reached 14.6 million tons, a decrease of 4.2% and an increase of 7.6% compared to 2018; steel exports were US$4.2 billion during the same period. The export volume reached 6.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5% and an increase of 5.4%.
